Heat-resistant fixation on the carpet backing.
In carpet manufacture the adhesive fixes the tufted yarns into the primary backing and bonds the secondary backing. How long the carpet resists wear depends largely on the strength of that bond.
The adhesive has to raise tuft bind, must not stiffen the carpet and has to withstand water during cleaning. Aquasive® water-based latex and dispersion adhesives give high tuft bind, while Powermelt® hot melts are used for backing lamination.
